Mommy Makeover in San Diego

Abhay Gupta, MD, FACS, knows that being a mother is a rewarding, yet demanding, job. That is why Dr. Gupta is  proud to offer mommy makeover cosmetic surgery to all the moms out there — just in time for Mother’s Day.

What is mommy makeover?

Mommy makeover is a combination of plastic surgery techniques designed to treat several areas of the body that can be negatively affected by pregnancy and nursing.

During mommy makeover, Dr. Gupta typically performs breast lift to raise sagging breasts; breast augmentation to provide volume in deflated breasts; abdominoplasty (“tummy tuck”) to eliminate extra skin and provide a flatter abdominal profile; and liposuction to remove excess fat. He can also include thigh lift surgery for those who desire sculpting through the thigh area.

Why treat yourself (or a loved one) to mommy makeover?

Being a mother is one of the most worthwhile experiences a woman can have. However, motherhood also comes with a few physical drawbacks. After pregnancy, childbirth and nursing, a woman’s body may not have the same contoured, youthful look that it once did. Breasts may droop, look deflated or even shrink to a smaller size than they were prior to having children. Nipples may start to migrate south. Pregnancy can cause abdominal muscles to weaken and become separated. Extra skin throughout the midsection can lose elasticity after pregnancy and start to sag as well. Fat may become stubbornly entrenched in surrounding tissue and resist diet and exercise.

These issues can be frustrating for women who want to look like their old selves again. And no mother deserves to feel badly about her body! Being a mother is difficult enough without dealing with a loss of self-confidence. Luckily, a mommy makeover can help address these issues. Treating yourself (or a loved one) to mommy makeover surgery can be a very positive, life-enhancing experience.

What to Know About Mommy Makeover

Dr. Gupta typically performs mommy makeover on an outpatient basis. He administers general anesthesia prior to surgery to maximize patient comfort, so patients need to have an authorized adult drop them off at and pick them up from the surgical center because they will be groggy as the effects of anesthesia subside. Patients also need someone responsible to stay with them the first night following surgery. It takes Dr. Gupta approximately one to  two hours for each procedure included in a mommy makeover (about four to  six hours total surgical time), depending on the complexity of the patient’s situation.

Because mommy makeover is a combination of cosmetic surgery procedures, women who undergo this treatment with Dr. Gupta should be prepared to recover for at least two weeks following surgery. In addition, patients should avoid exercise and other strenuous activity for at least six weeks or as advised by Dr. Gupta.

As with any surgical procedure, there are certain inherent risks. However, Dr. Gupta is well-practiced, has extensive expertise in mommy makeovers and takes every precaution available to minimize surgical risks. Patients must also do their part to reduce the risk of complications by not smoking and by closely following all of Dr. Gupta’s pre- and post-procedure instructions. Dr. Gupta discusses possible risks, as well as the rewards of mommy makeover surgery, with his patients during consultation.

If you are a mother who wants to treat yourself, or if you are a loved one who wants to give your mother (or wife) an amazing Mother’s Day present, remember that mommy makeover with Dr. Gupta makes the perfect gift!

Fun Fact of the Month: “Spring fever” is a real condition. During the warm spell that follows a long winter, the body’s blood vessels dilate to carry blood to the body’s surface where heat dissipates quickly. When this occurs, some people experience an energetic feeling, referred to as spring fever.
